Right now, millions of people in the UK regularly experience hunger. 1.5 million adults in London struggle to afford to eat every day, 400,000 children are at risk of missing their next meal. Meanwhile, our food industry generates almost 2 million tonnes of good, edible surplus food each year. Now more than ever, we fear these numbers will be higher due to the global pandemic crisis. we are facing today.
This is where The Felix Project steps in to tackle both these issues, especially now when the need is vast and imminent. Their London-based food redistribution waste charity was set up in 2016 to fight food waste and hunger. And ever since they have been providing food for nearly 3 million meals per year, rapidly grown to working with around 200 charities and 200 suppliers helping disadvantaged adults and children get access to high quality food.

HOW DO THEY DO THIS?
TFP rescue good, surplus food from the food industry that cannot be sold and would otherwise go to waste. High-quality and nutritious food, including a high proportion of fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, salads, meat and fish. They collect or receive food from over 170 suppliers, including supermarkets, wholesalers, farms, restaurants and delis.
The food is then sorted and delivered to over 350 front-line charities, primary schools and holiday programmes in London. Food that would have otherwise gone to waste is reaching vulnerable people, homeless, people with mental health or those who simply cannot afford to buy regular, healthy food.

HOW WE CAN ALL GET INVOLVED?
The Coronavirus health crisis impacts every one of us, but none more than the most vulnerable in our society.
As London's biggest food redistribution charity, TFP are working in overdrive during this lockdown to continue rescuing good food and getting it to people who need it - children, families, the homeless, elderly, people with mental health issues, domestic abuse survivors, refugees and our NHS heroes.
This last month they have delivered over 100 tonnes of food to Londoners in need through their extensive network of over 600 charities, schools, holiday programmes and local community groups al across London.
And yet, this is not enough. More people than ever face hunger in London, now.
In order to ensure nobody is left behind, TFP are working to get food to new distribution hubs in every London borough, as part of the new London Food Alliance.
They need to raise £750,000 so they can keep going and reach everyone they need to over the next three months.
